A Boy and a Book

This is my youngest on a hot August afternoon in 2000, taking a break from the heat to course through the fourth Harry Potter. He is me, only finer.

Today he moves into a dormitory at the University of Kansas to begin his freshman year of college.

So fast! Too soon.

  1. Glorius picture!

Ironically, I was thinking of a post on the passage of time, with a perhaps less poignant illustration - now I think I'll definitely do it this week.

Anyway, I hope he enjoys University - and I hope you enjoy following him through his studies

  2. A wonderful picture of a wonderful boy.

Always liked that picture but it's the first time I notice that he's on a sofa and that the book is actually bigger than he is.

In the blink of an eye... they grow so much faster than we're ready to accept!

Good luck to him becoming a man, good luck to you accepting him as such.

  3. Thanks to you both. He was nine there and was too engrossed in the Potter book to trouble himself to pose. The backlighting was a wonderful bit of luck.

It's one of my favorite photos, too.

    Great photo, though.
